What are the benefits and drawbacks of each?
Experiments - Gathering research from doing a experiment is really good data to collect but only if the experiment is carried out probably and is carefully planned. Experimenting is difficult to control as you have to think about your invariables and variables and what to change to get the relevant information.
Participant Observation -The experimenter taking part is both good and bad. It could have a element of Overt included as the experimenter could act different knowing the observation inside out. But taking participate can also make a conclusion really specific and adding your own experience could also be helpful.
Observation - Overt - Observing people and telling them your observing them. People may act different knowing that there being watch which isn’t accurate.
Observation - Convert - Observing people without them knowing. This is really effective as it gets a natural response.
Historical Research -looking at the past is a good place to gather information as it’s all happened and is a reliable source to use.
Comparative analysis - This is great type of research to carry out to select the best product out of selection of similar products. It points out good and bad points from both and weigh them out to find what is the best product. Through this research you can look at all the different good points that each product includes and include it or take it into consideration when creating your product.
Competitor analysis - researching the competitor is a great marketing strategy to use in any business especially in a tough competitive industry i.e. Music industry. It’s great to take note on both good points and bad points from your competitors and take on board the good points and to try avoid the bad points. In a forever changing industry competitor analysis would be successful technique as you could stay updated with the times but you may be 1 step behind which is a downfall so being innovative with new ideas and also watching your competitors very closely is the winning formula in my opinion.
