In today’s lesson we tried out the competitors analysis by comparing 2 website using a criteria to rate divided sections. The sections were split up into; Home page, navigation, links and labels, search results, readability, performance and content.
From a business perspective it’s a effect way to do research as you can gasp good points from both websites to include in your website.
This particular technique is from a consumers point of view therefore it’s based purely on your consumers who are the most important. The sections we looked at are the basics that make a good or bad website so it’s important to research into the basics of a website.
The overall rating is the only criticism I have of the research technique as someone that rates something a 1 someone else could say is a 3 so it really depends on how strict the person is which differs with each person.
I think the rating number should be out of 10 instead of 5 so the rating is more clearer and is much more accurate which would be easier to read as a review. Also I personally think it should be more specific by rating in decimals as well.
Competitors analysis/comparative study is a great research technique for beginners and great from a consumers point of view.
