I read a article on Social networking and researching by Sean Hargrave
Here’s my summery of the article …
Social networking is the new craze, So many people talk about brands and products through conversations on facebook or there opinion on adverts or the brands itself. So social networking sites is a insight on what people think and many brands have realised this therefore are starting there campaigns on social website. For example Lynx Twist and the lip balm ‘Simple’.
On facebook there are facebook pages where people can become a fan of or ‘like’. Companies set up this pages to calculate roughly how many fans they got. Signing up to one of this pages allows you to express your views and suggest future products. This gives them a real idea on success of products they’ve launched and what the people want from there particular brand.
Coke cola facebook fan page has over 7 million fans, So if they have special offer or a new product they can post on there wall and immediately reach out to 7 million consumers.
Facebook constructive feedback has allowed many companies to make positive changes and enhance there brand/company.
My thoughts -
I personally feel that marketing brands on social network have proven to be very successful but only to particular brands. I feel Facebook, Youtube and twitter are mainly used by a younger audience therefore only brands that appeal to young people will be hugely successful. I think brands and products that are aimed towards a older audience can still be successful but I think they wouldn’t have as much success.
Socialising networks have now gave the people a voice which in my opinion is a a amazing element for both consumers and producers. The brands and company sell more products and maximise profits whilst the audience receive products they want and need.
Marketing on social sites are cheaper than putting up billboards and TV adverts so it’s a plus side for the budget. But as I said it’s limited to younger audience especially facebook.
I feel research companies that look at peoples conversation to see what there talking about seems to be a invasion of privacy in my opinion. But I see it as if your talking on social networking the user are aware that everything is public. So in both ways it’s right and wrong.
Overall thumbs up for social networks as a tool to market a campaign.
