Research Techniques for Media

When starting up a magazine you have to consider numerous elements that can determine whether or not your magazine is successful.

I personally think there are many elements to consider but here are a few of the most important.

The layout and image of a magazine is extremely important. Creating a image that suits your target audience by looking at other examples in the industry currently. Creating a trending image creates a recognizable image.

The content is another important element as it should be able to cater to your target audience to keep them interested to buy the issue which then creates a bigger and consistent following for your magazine which then could expand though word of mouth.

As a seller you can’t just rely on word of mouth so therefore advertising and marketing is extremely important as well. Also thinking about advertising location where your target audience would most likely be. For example for a magazine that appeals to a young audience I may place a Ad on Facebook or Youtube for maximum exposure.

Also how regular the magazine and the price of the magazine has to be competitive to stand a chance to sell. Also to get printed the right amount of copies so you sell constantly and make most profit. You could have weekly and mouthy issues. Even considering what day comes out is important.

Competitions, prizes and freebies is another promotional technique that could be useful and could particular be more important than the magazine itself in some cases. Especially children magazine when children are sometimes more interested in the toy.

Being resourceful is key as the budget could be small but the way you spend that money and cut cost you could have a great magazine if you follow these techniques and think about with a lot of planning.
